JESSIE VEYNA

Jessie Veyna had been a member of Soroptimist International of Visalia since 1974, marking 52 years of dedication in serving women and girls in our community. When Jessie joined our club, she was working at Redwood High School as an English aid, then a counseling aid. But her bravest and boldest task was being the advisor for the pep squad, managing 36 girls, and helping with the various dance performances, sporting events, and assemblies that the girls were participating in. She was “all in” and served in that role for 12 years and a Redwood staff member for 35 years.

Jessie served 2 terms as our SI Visalia President from 1979-1981. But she was always involved at some level in a variety of our club activities and projects. Near and dear to her heart was our VAWA team (Violence Against Women Advocacy). She hosted a Mother’s Day Brunch at her home for many years for the women at Karen’s House, our local domestic violence shelter. Having a very creative eye and design skills, we consistently looked to Jessie to help plan and implement décor for our annual Ruby Awards and our fundraiser, Spring Fling.

Jessie and her late husband Sixto, raised 3 children. Arthur, Maxine, and Stephen.
